General Info

Focus Punch is a move with low priority. When a Pokémon uses Focus Punch, it initiates a concentration process at the start of its turn, intending to execute the move Focus Punch with a priority level of -3. However, if the user is struck by an opponent's damaging move before they can complete their Focus Punch, their concentration breaks, preventing them from attacking during that turn. It's worth noting that the user's concentration remains unshaken if their substitute is targeted or if they are affected by a non-damaging status move. The message announcing the charge-up for Focus Punch appears before any other moves are carried out. The move consumes PP even if the user fails to maintain their concentration and execute Focus Punch. Furthermore, even if the user loses their focus, Focus Punch is still counted as the last move used, which is important for effects like Encore. In situations where a Pokémon is compelled to use Focus Punch by Encore but selects a different move during that turn and hasn't already moved, it will use Focus Punch with the priority of the move it chose. However, the message announcing the charge-up will not be displayed, and the user will still lose their focus if they are damaged by an attack in that turn. Additionally, Focus Punch can be employed as the second move in a Pokémon Contest combination, earning the user 3 extra appeal points if they used Focus Energy in the preceding turn. If a wild Pokémon possesses Focus Punch through means like Transform, Mimic, Sketch, or as part of a challenge within the Battle Frontier, and the player's attempt to flee the battle is unsuccessful while the opposing Pokémon has already designated Focus Punch for use in the current turn, the move will be executed immediately without the usual charging animation or message.
