Attract induces infatuation in the target when they have opposite genders, and it functions irrespective of type immunity, even piercing through a substitute. However, it remains ineffective when the user and target share the same gender or if either of them is gender-unknown. Additionally, it fails on a Pokémon already infatuated. Pokémon with Oblivious or Aroma Veil are immune to Attract's effects. If a Pokémon under the spell of Attract holds a Mental Herb or Eggant Berry, the item gets consumed, and the infatuation subsides, even if the Pokémon possesses Oblivious.
